As a high school student reporter, I had the opportunity to attend the 2025 XC Creative Art Contest award ceremony and exhibition. The event not only showcased outstanding student works, but also created space for dialogue and reflection—allowing me to see new possibilities for art in both the present and the future.
With the support of Massachusetts State Representative Richard M. Haggerty and the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), awards were presented to the Top 6 student recipients as well as students whose works were selected for exhibition at the XC Gallery. Judges and sponsors emphasized the importance of originality, interdisciplinary thinking, and the role of young artistic voices within the community and broader society.
The exhibition challenged the traditional notion of simply “viewing” art. Many works were extended through QR codes that linked to videos, music, and research-based materials. Moving between the gallery walls and mobile screens, audiences were able to explore the creative logic and thought processes behind each piece. By integrating art with technology, science, and literature, the exhibition became more participatory and closely aligned with contemporary modes of learning and expression.
During the discussion sessions that followed, student interviews and an open Q&A with the judges addressed topics such as art in the age of AI, the value of art education, and how interdisciplinary approaches shape future paths. The exchange of diverse perspectives highlighted that art is not only a form of personal expression, but also a way to engage with the world and respond to the issues of our time.
The event concluded with a lighthearted raffle. More importantly, it left me with a lasting conviction: the true value of art education lies in inspiring critical thinking, fostering dialogue, and encouraging young people to explore the unknown with curiosity and confidence.
