How I Ended Up With a Robotics Project for Art

Recently I decided to take on the challenge of creating something more interdisciplinary than what I usually create. Fashion design has a lot of different aspects—robotics is typically not one of them.
This is how I ended up with my current art project, which has taken on a life of its own. It seems to get more complex every time I work. By taking inspiration from other designs online, such as this, I am in the process of creating a set of articulated wings, which will eventually be part of my sister’s Angel themed outfit. The goal is to bluetooth control them, using microcontrollers, linear actuators, and various other things that I have never
worked with before, as well as relearning how to use CAD software to design the back pieces. The rest of the outfit is more chill, made up of a multipiece dress, hairpiece, and jewelry (we ignore the fact that I decided to make a full on dress form using an online pattern, and yet have spent more time trying to figure out ESP32’s hypothetical wiring than sewing). I’ve had a lot of fun working on it so far, if we ignore the time that I had to ask Jeff during my class at XC Art Center to redrill holes multiple times in the PEX piping I used for the frame due to inconsistent measuring... It’s already been compared to various European cathedrals that have never finished, or took literal centuries. Hopefully the wings won’t take after the cathedrals in that regard! Anyways, here is a photo of the wings so far:
